extra flyers and paper

I am constantly getting flyers for various campus events that have nothing to do with my department or my program - frequently these are on card stock and in color, which means they were not cheap to produce. It seems like notice of campus events, such as bed races and even speakers, could be sent out via email and save paper and a large amount of money. Similarly, while Christmas and Thanksgiving cards are cute, ...more »

have online form for Key control instead of printed multi part

UTA Procedure 6-15 Key and Lock Control

requires these forms to be purchased by each dept. from campus printing in section II A

http://www.uta.edu/policy/procedure/6-15

$17.95 per 25 forms.

Why not have an online form, that could be sent to Key Control Electronically instead of thru campus mail.

Water Filling Stations

With so many events and programs on campus passing out reusable bottles and mugs, we need to install water filling stations to accommodate the use of these items. I recently contacted Pepsi to see how much bottled water has been purchased or donated to UTA since Pepsi began in December 2008. This is alarming and we really need to consider reducing our use of bottled water on campus. 4,194 cases have been either purchased ...more »

Paper purchase

Every department at UTA orders its own paper. If the University negotiated a contract directly with the paper company and the paper was delivered to a central location(such as the print shop), the school could save a large amount of money. Two additional things would have to happen with the paper: 1. print shop could not raise the price 2. to stay green, but not bear the extravagant expense of 100% recycled paper, ...more »

Community Wellness - Designate walking trails on-campus

Repaint (or re-designate) the walking trails that go around the MAC via sidewalks. A few years ago, 3 trails were in place (1-mile, 2-mile, & 3-mile). Each trail was color coded and the trails we mapped out on the sidewalks. A sign (similar to a campus map) was posted near the outside of the Activities Bldg., this indicated the distance of each path. The walking trails could be used by faculty & staff, students and ...more »

Vehicles Driving on Campus

Reduce the number of vehicles that are allowed to drive within the confines of the campus on what are technically sidewalks between the buildings. Consider using the small mules rather than full-sized vehicles. It is not uncommon to see 8+ vehicles parked around the Library Mall or count up to 30 vehicles parked or driving in pedestrain areas as you are walking from the UC to Davis Hall. It distracts from the comforts ...more »

Paperless teaching and grading

Many faculty probably already do this, but paperless grading really helps everyone. It's especially good on the instructor's end for managing large classes: 1) students have a "time stamp" for when they turned in work, eliminating fuss of claims that it was turned in on XYZ date 2) students get quicker feedback and grades through the learning management system and 3) there is room for hybrid teaching or assignments, enhancing ...more »

Faculty/Staff Parking at Davis Hall

HELP! We need additional handicap parking. We NEED to install signs at each space designating "FACULTY/STAFF ONLY" parking? The students do not notice, do not pay attention to the faded striped lines. We should monitor/enforce these violators who use our spaces, this is not being done on a regular basis. We should not have to walk from the MAC to get back to work after lunch especially if you are handicapped! We are ...more »

Watering Restrictions

I understand the need to maintain an inviting atmosphere on campus; however, seeing gardeners watering lawns at 1 o'clock in the afternoon when it's 94 degrees outside is a little frustrating, not to mention counterproductive. Additionally, the City of Arlington calls for "Year-Round Watering Restrictions" from 10am - 6pm daily. I know there are a few exceptions to this rule, and perhaps we meet one of those, but as ...more »

Visitor Parking & Decal

Have some designated visitor parking near all buildings and simplify the visitor decal process. It can be very trying for visitors to make way across campus to get decal, find parking far-off and then get to their destination in time. It does not help the campus image if all that the visitor remembers is the long walk and a parking ticket!

Regulate building temps better

Some parts of our building (Central Library) are sweltering, while others are freezing; I'm sure other campus buildings are similar. It's not uncommon for my neighbor librarians and I to have to wrap ourselves in sweaters and blankets in the summer. I see students doing the same while studying. Can we not set the building to be 74 degrees and have it actually stay that way? We have complained time and again to our building's ...more »

Stop Changing the Logo

Understandably times change and things become outdated, but changing the "A" logo repeatedly is a bit much. The only change in the logo was the "feet" on the first A are now gone and the color of the star has changed. Changing this logo now means everyone has to purchase new letterhead, envelopes, pens, bags, post-it pads, etc. It doesnt seem to be enough of a difference to justify the change!

Let Faculty/Staff know about Maverick Discount Program

The Maverick Discount Program is for students, faculty and staff. If you show your Maverick ID at certain area businesses you receive discounts on different types of services. The current program is listed on the Student Congress site, but it would be nice for Human Resources to list it as well. Here's a sample of UT's Human Resources/Benefits version of it that we could possibly mimic. http://www.utexas.edu/hr/edp/ ...more »

Summer/Winter Voluntary Employee Furlough Program

Create a voluntary summer and/or winter employee furlough plan similar to the summer flex plan. Allow employees that are classified within preapproved, preselected employment classification groups the opportunity to volunteer taking preapproved days off during the summer or winter (1 day every week, 1 day every two weeks, or so many days within a calendar month) at either a reduced pay or no pay, but without impacting ...more »

Cost Savings accross campus

Eliminate the styrofoam or paper coffee cups being used in break rooms. Everyone bring their own mug to work.

Put sensors on the lights in the bathrooms so they go off on their own when not in use.

Eliminate the receptions from the Graduation Ceremonies until the Special Events center is open.

Continue to NOT have the Community Holiday Reception until the economy is better.

Anonymize Up/Down Votes

I am inclined to think that people will be more honest in their support or disapproval for a particular suggestion if their Up and Down votes are allowed to be anonymous. I can understand where the author of a suggestion should be named, but the lack of a secret ballot seems too much like a card check system that (I believe) will discourage widespread participation.
