Cost Savings

Discontinue unnecessary mailings for "save-the-date," announcements, other informational/invitational cards. I receive 3-4 postcards per week which are meaningless to me because I already have the info. Use email! Save paper!

extra flyers and paper

I am constantly getting flyers for various campus events that have nothing to do with my department or my program - frequently these are on card stock and in color, which means they were not cheap to produce. It seems like notice of campus events, such as bed races and even speakers, could be sent out via email and save paper and a large amount of money. Similarly, while Christmas and Thanksgiving cards are cute, ...more »

Reduce Work Hours During Summer

I think closing down the whole University at Noon on Fridays, only during the Summer, would save the University a lot money. Or close every other Friday during the Summer. Almost all the Universities or Colleges in the area do close sometime during the Summer.

Electronic Version of Maverick Connection

Could there be limited printed copies of the Maverick Connection Phonebook offering a greener option of it either online or via a DVD-ROM directory?

Parking and Transportation

Faculty and Staff Parking

Eventually convert all staff and student parking lots into mulitlevel parking garages. There are not enough parking spaces to accomadate the growth of the campus. Most individuals cannot leave for lunch without losing their parking spot.

Water Filling Stations

With so many events and programs on campus passing out reusable bottles and mugs, we need to install water filling stations to accommodate the use of these items. I recently contacted Pepsi to see how much bottled water has been purchased or donated to UTA since Pepsi began in December 2008. This is alarming and we really need to consider reducing our use of bottled water on campus. 4,194 cases have been either purchased ...more »

Paper purchase

Every department at UTA orders its own paper. If the University negotiated a contract directly with the paper company and the paper was delivered to a central location(such as the print shop), the school could save a large amount of money. Two additional things would have to happen with the paper: 1. print shop could not raise the price 2. to stay green, but not bear the extravagant expense of 100% recycled paper, ...more »

have online form for Key control instead of printed multi part

UTA Procedure 6-15 Key and Lock Control

requires these forms to be purchased by each dept. from campus printing in section II A

http://www.uta.edu/policy/procedure/6-15

$17.95 per 25 forms.

Why not have an online form, that could be sent to Key Control Electronically instead of thru campus mail.

Office Supplies

Standardize office supplies. By negotiating annual or bi-annual contracts on office supplies and standardizing which ones are used throughout campus, the savings could be as much as 40%.

Vehicles Driving on Campus

Reduce the number of vehicles that are allowed to drive within the confines of the campus on what are technically sidewalks between the buildings. Consider using the small mules rather than full-sized vehicles. It is not uncommon to see 8+ vehicles parked around the Library Mall or count up to 30 vehicles parked or driving in pedestrain areas as you are walking from the UC to Davis Hall. It distracts from the comforts ...more »

Faculty/Staff Parking at Davis Hall

HELP! We need additional handicap parking. We NEED to install signs at each space designating "FACULTY/STAFF ONLY" parking? The students do not notice, do not pay attention to the faded striped lines. We should monitor/enforce these violators who use our spaces, this is not being done on a regular basis. We should not have to walk from the MAC to get back to work after lunch especially if you are handicapped! We are ...more »

General Operations

Anonymize Up/Down Votes

I am inclined to think that people will be more honest in their support or disapproval for a particular suggestion if their Up and Down votes are allowed to be anonymous. I can understand where the author of a suggestion should be named, but the lack of a secret ballot seems too much like a card check system that (I believe) will discourage widespread participation.
